DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Nancy Akerly ( artist bio ) \n\n\n\nVenue: Online (Zoom) \n\n\n\nDays & Dates: Monday\, Friday & Tuesday—November 30th\, December 4th\, & 8th of 2026 \n\n\n\nTime: Pacific Time\, 10 AM to approximately 1 PM\, including breaks with classroom doors opening at 9:50 AM \n\n\n\nSkill Level: All\, Some Box-Making Experience Helpful \n\n\n\nClass Description: The Zhen Xian Bao\, or Chinese Thread Book\, is an historical treasure based on the small books or wallets of the Mao women of Southwest China. They would tuck these folded treasures into the pockets of their tunics\, always having their sewing supplies of snippets of thread\, needles\, fabrics\, patterns\, small tools and handwork within reach. The Zhen Xian Bao may have as many as 17 different compartments\, all folded from paper and covered by either fabric or a stronger paper. You will be introduced to the basic structure\, making the foundations from two kinds of strong and beautiful Japanese Momigami paper. Embellishments and covers will be made from Chiyogami paper or any other special papers you choose. The book will be cinched closed by Hedi Kyle’s marvelous Belt Closure\, and you will be able to embellish and decorate the many different parts of the book/wallet to make it truly your own. There are so many layers of pockets and hidden compartments where you can place photos\, quotes\, sayings\, and little treasures of all kinds. We will also extend the basic Zhen Xian Bao to also create small books\, cards\, and a few other surprises. The possibilities are endless! \n\n\n\nClass Kits: SDBA’s class price includes the $70 supply kit plus mailing costs of $20. \n\n\n\nTools & Supplies: Registrants provide all needed tools. SDBA class price includes the supply kit and mailing costs. Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s) are 2 1/2” wide by 3 1/2” tall. You can create your own mini works of art for this book\, or display your collection of ATC’s. This class is approximately 3 hours long. Kit may provide templates to assist in making your book. \n\n\n\nTools and Supplies: Registrants provide all needed tools and supplies for class.
