Class Description:
What is a Pop-up and what is not? How far can we stretch the definition? What are the basic principles, and how can we use, abuse, and play with them to create highly personal work?
The course will ask these and other open-ended questions, so that you thoroughly learn the fundamentals of pop-ups and thoroughly learn how to manipulate and combine them, similar to learning how to use a set of notes in a musical scale to create many different harmonies and dissonances. Making pop-ups is a fun, intuitive and quick process, based on simple measuring techniques.
Paul has taught pop-ups to students of design and groups of makers on many occasions. He has written Cut and Fold Techniques for Pop-up Designs and exhibited his pop-up artwork at the “World Pop-up Art” exhibition, which toured South Korea (2013-14).
