Skill Level: Previous box making experience is helpful.

Class Description: This is Pietro’s version of a common sewing box made with marbled fabric. It has a multi compartment top level that is removable. The lid can be fully open and the bottom compartment is dedicated to house bigger sewing items. You will learn tips on how to make a hinged cover. He will also cover all the basic tips and tricks of using fabric for box making.

Artist Bio: Pietro is native to the northwestern Italian city of Turin where his father Gaetano founded and operated a commercial printing press. His youth spent in the press led him to paper marbling, restoration and bookbinding. Pietro in 1997 established “La Legatoria del Sole,” an artisanal and production-oriented bookbindery in Turin. It served Turin’s Municipal Archives, public and university libraries. After coming to the U.S. he started teaching paper and fabric marbling at the “San Francisco Center for the Book” and at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. 

Together with his wife Vanessa he has founded Accardi Book Arts: a book arts studio and bindery in Gardnerville to follow his passion of marbling fabric/paper and to preserve the tradition of handmade books and boxes.

Class Kits: Class materials kits will be sent by the instructor. Shipping costs of $20 and kit costs of $70 are included in the class price.* 

Mailed kit contains:
All the hard boards necessary for constructing the box
All the paper templates and marbled fabric for covering the outside of the box, along with black paper for the inside of the box, and ribbon. 

Registrant provided Tools & Supplies: These will be listed within the timely SDBA Welcome Letter.

Class Recordings:
Recordings will be available for one month following the last class in this series, for registered students only.
